For Those Who Want to Know About My Journey
I grow vineyards by rule, by discipline and by people. Philosophy shapes the vision, but it's the crews - trained, long-tenured, invested - who elevate the vines and in turn the wine.
After serving in the US Army as an Operations Sergeant where I further honed my leadership I studied viticulture and enology at Washington State University. At the same time I started school I began working as a viticulturist at Klipsun Vineyards, one of the top 25 in the world. This was my introduction to high-end wine-growing.
After school I stepped into the field as the General Manager of Elephant Mountain and Sugarloaf Vineyards two of the most demanding, high-elevation vineyards in the State. In 2016 I founded Brothers In Farms, what began as vineyard consulting is now a 60-person team managing and developing premium vineyards in Washington and Oregon. Now managing 16 vineyards in Washington and Oregon we have worked with many of the best wineries in the state.
During this time I have had the pleasure of helping many of these wineries produce world class wines in the vineyards. From our grapes there have been 8 Top 100 wines, a 100pt wine, a handful of 98/99pt wines and countless 94+ plus wines. One property we currently manage has eight 95+ point wines in a row. The credit goes to these amazing wineries we get to work with every year, we are the backbone in the field.
This path has given us the opportunity to come back and purchase my first love Elephant Mountain and Sugarloaf vineyards. Where we are using this as an opportunity to showcase all our learning, experience and relationships over the last 17 years to produce our own wines under the MocToe label. This is our project, where we get to choose exactly how a grape is grown, where no corners will be cut in pursuit of the ultimate expression of our experience and values. This is a path of destiny and we want to share this with the world and our people.
